European notebook owners addicted to Internet

Some 77% of European notebook computer users say "they could not live" without daily access to the Internet, according to a survey by pollster YouGov, sponsored by microprocessor vendor Advanced Micro Devices.

Just over 80% of respondents are uploading digital photos, while 77% had watched videos on YouTube or similar sites and 66 percent had downloaded music.

In terms of what the notebooks are used for: 76% said that they had engaged in individual gaming over the last year on either a notebook or a desktop PC, 44% had played against others, 51% had downloaded films and 43% had streamed films over the last year. Only 14% said that they watch Blu-ray movies.

According to the study, 48% of respondents would prefer a notebook as their next home computer, 32% a desktop PC and 14% a Netbook.

YouGov interviewed 5148 respondents online between 17 and 30 September. Respondents were interviewed from France, Germany, Russia, Spain and the UK. The survey asked respondents questions about their computing habits, specifically looking at notebook usage and connectivity.
