DVD vending technology secures £125K investment

Original Video, the UK’s only manufacturer of DVD vending machine – rental kiosks – has recently secured a £125,000 private investment to launch their company-owned units into outlets nationwide. This investment was secured through the South West Angel and Investor Network (SWAIN), the leading private investment network in the South West region.

Since launching in the UK in 2006, the company has placed trial units in stores across Britain, and the success of these trial units has led to the company committing a majority of their newly secured investment into the retail sector. They are expecting to expand at a rate of five new locations a month come 2008.

DVD vending machines are a less publicised addition to the ever evolving DVD rental market, and enable people to offer automated DVD rental in a variety of locations. These machines have been placed in retail stores, Universities and internet café’s across the UK, and there is speculation that some of the major multiple groups such as Tesco will be implementing this technology into their stores in the future.

In the United States, the automated DVD vending concept has rapidly grown in retail with McDonalds placing Redbox DVD units into hundreds of their US restaurants.
