DEG announces Green Entertainment Award winners

The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has announced the winners of the inaugural Green Entertainment Awards, part of the first-ever Green Media Summit, held last week at the Luxe Hotel in Los Angeles. The event, attended by some 200 executives, was designed to inform the studio and entertainment communities about the latest developments and opportunities for the environmental delivery of digital entertainment media.

The seven winners of the 2008 Green Entertainment Award winners were recognized for their eco-friendly content, packaging, manufacturing and/or distribution. The awards mark the first time physical media has been recognized for their eco-friendly practices which will help to better climate change.

Also a first, the Green Ambassador of the Year was selected for his efforts and dedication to advancing environmental initiatives in the home entertainment marketplace. "We are delighted that the home entertainment community is embracing eco-friendly solutions that will help lessen the effects on climate change," said Amy Jo Smith, Executive Director of DEG. "We give particular recognition to Disney’s Larry Wilk who is a crusader for embracing environmental friendly practices in the industry."

The Green Entertainment Award winners are as follows:

- Best Green Bonus Features: Evan Almighty (Universal Studios Home Entertainment)
- Best Green Educational Tool: Bambi (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment)
- Best Green CD Packaging: Number Ones (Universal Music Group)
- Best Green Packaging: Blu-ray Disc
- Carbon-Neutral DVD Release of the Year: Futurama: Bender’s Big Score (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment)
- Pioneering Eco-Friendly DVD: An Inconvenient Truth (Paramount Home Entertainment)
- Best in Show: The 11th Hour (Warner Home Video)
- Green Ambassador of the Year: Larry Wilk from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
