Hong Kong's InfoSmart gears up for BD production

Hong Kong-based InfoSmart Group has closed a $5 million commercial loan with two institutional investors to finance the development of Blu-ray sales and marketing efforts in their local and international markets. The Group will manufacturing Blu-ray Discs in Asia and, as of the estimated start up date of July 1, capacity of its initial line will be 500,000 discs per month.

The company hopes to add a second line in 2008 as well. “Although most of the demand is currently in Hong Kong and China, some of the capacity may be redistributed to export markets by InfoDisc’s current customer base,” sources told One to One magazine.

Parker Seto, CEO of InfoSmart Group, adds: “While our company continues to reap the benefits of traditional DVDR lines in emerging markets such as Brazil, we are also preparing for the continued development of media in developed markets such as Asia. The addition of BD production lines to our recent acquisition of our first Anwell unit not only expands our Blu-ray production capacity, but also adds balance to our product portfolio which now consists of DVDR, Flash Memory and BD.”
