Cinram joins One-Blue's Blu-ray Disc Licensing Programme

Optical disc replicator Cinram has joined the One-Blue Blu-ray Disc product licensing programme as a licensee. Cinram signed a BD-ROM Movie Disc and/or Data Disc License Agreement that grants the company access to important patents essential to the Blu-ray Disc standard from leading licensors.

To date, these include CyberLink, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, JVC Kenwood, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Taiyo Yuden and Yamaha.

One-Blue administers the licensing programme for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc products and is the joint licensing agent of its licensors. For hardware and software products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc DVD and CD patents; for disc products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc patents.

One-Blue's innovative approach to patent pooling includes per-batch licensing, pre-netting, and product-based royalties. Representing 15 licensors from among the world's global consumer electronics manufacturers, One-Blue operates a pool of more than 10,000 essential BD patents and to date has executed 76 Registration and/or License Agreements.

"Cinram is a much anticipated addition to the One-Blue BD-ROM/Movie Disc licensing programme," said William J. Lenihan, Director of IP Licensing of One-Blue. "One-Blue creates a level playing field by guaranteeing strong patent enforcement for licensees and licensors and ensure competitive parity for all Blu-ray Disc providers."
