Olympics showcased on 'breakthrough' glasses-free 3D technology

Stream TV Networks claims it has developed a revolutionary technology that delivers 'true and natural' glasses-free 3D images, absent of the distorted images consumers currently get with all attempts at glasses-free 3D TV technologies.

Ultra-D technology combines an optical system on a panel and a software and hardware layer to convert high-definition images into a format suitable for glasses-free 3D TVs, which removes the distorted images produced by multiple viewing angles. Other major manufacturers have attempted to solve the picture break-up problem, but Stream TV Networks says its technology is the first that lets a viewer move from side to side without any loss of picture quality.

The SeeCube Conversion Box seamlessly autoconverts 2D and 3D stereoscopic (with glasses) into autostereoscopic (glasses-free) 3D format in real-time. Ultra-D supports nearly every kind of video feed including cable, Blu-ray, DVD, XBOX, PS3, PC games, stereoscopic 3D TV channels and online video. Most recently, the technology has also been optimised for the iOS, Macs and the Android operating system for enhanced connectivity to peripheral devices.

The developer claims Ultra-D technology can be ported to displays of almost any size without any noticeable loss in brightness or resolution.

The breakthrough, technical and cost, will see Stream TV Networks introduce 42-inch autostereoscopic LCD TV that will retail for a reported $2,000 pricetag. "Other TV set makers are at the research phase or so expensive that a glasses-free 3D product is beyond mainstream customers," says the company.

Over the next few months, several high profile events including the 2012 Olympic Games will be broadcast with glasses 3D, which can be autoconverted into 3D glasses-free real-time using the Ultra-D technology developed by Stream TV Networks.

Stream TV is participating in a 'Summer of 3D' and will be setting up its glasses-free TVs at sports bars in major metropolitan areas around the world - New York City, London, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The Belushi chain will display 42-inch Ultra-D televisions at their London, Edinburgh, Prague, Berlin and Paris locations. Ultra-D TVs will also be available in Philadelphia, Taipei, Beijing and Shanghai.

Stream TV will push its Ultra-D technology to tablets and smartphones and plans to show a 5-inch 3D smartphone based on its technology later this year. iPad, iPhone and Apple TV users will be able to beam movie or application images to upcoming glasses-free Ultra-D 3D TV sets. Applications such as Angry Birds, Netflix movies, Xbox or PlayStation games can be beamed to the glasses-free 3D TV.

At IFA in Berlin, Stream TV Networks will also announce a major partnership with one of the world's largest TV manufacturers.

After unveiling their initial partnership with Pegatron, that will manufacture their Ultra-D devices, Stream TV Networks announced that it has strengthened its ties with Konka and BOE to distribute Ultra-D 3D TVs and the bundled SeeCube Conversion Boxes in China which they see as the largest consumer market for 3D media. More than 38% of the TVs sold in China this year have been 3DTVs.
