BVA goes social with Facebook hub to promote Blu-ray experience

The British Video Association is launching a new Facebook hub dedicated to the home viewing Blu-ray experience on behalf of the home entertainment division of 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Studios and Warner Home Video.

The new page, Film@Home (www.facebook.com/filmathome), brings together Hollywood’s top studios to give film fans news, the latest blockbuster trailers and exclusive giveaways. The page lets fans “indulge in ‘that cinema feeling at home’ through the wide choice of home entertainment formats on offer today.”

Film@Home launches with an exclusive competition for Film@Home members. The jointly funded launch promotion will be supported by advertising and a film blogger outreach programme during the launch month.

The BVA says the Facebook hub provides a more mainstream home for the Blu-ray format in particular, following the consolidation of www.thisisbluray.co.uk into the BVA’s own website last December. With the format’s increasing popularity, the association expects significant numbers of Facebook users to become fans of the hub in the coming months.

Lavinia Carey, Director General of the British Video Association, said: “We set up www.thisisbluray.co.uk when Blu-ray was a fledgling format as a place for journalists and interested consumers to find out more about Blu-ray, and how to enjoy it via HDTV. Today Blu-ray is well and truly in the mainstream consciousness and features in millions of homes. Therefore it merits a different kind of online home, one that is less functional and more fun to use which allow fans to share recommendations with their friends.”
