Sony DADC's movieIQ feature gets European launch on French film

Sony DADC Creative Services has supported the European launch of movieIQ for the French independent producer / distributor, Europa Corp, on L’homme qui voulait vivre sa vie (The Big Picture), a film directed by Eric Lartigau.

With a movieIQ-enabled Blu-ray Disc and an internet-connected Blu-ray player, movie fans can immediately access continuously-updated information on cast and crew and explore relevant trivia such as production facts, music and soundtrack information all tied to scenes within the movie. MovieIQ supports integrated RSS feeds, web and mobile sync, and modifiable banner ads to provide one of the best values in BD-Live. It is designed for use on both HDMV and BD-J titles.

In addition to the filmographies of production crew and the actors, On L’homme qui voulait vivre sa vie, Sony DADC’s European Java programming team adapted the advanced BD-Live interactivity to also include cast trivia, scene commentary and directorial insights. It also designed and programmed an on-disc quiz game themed around the photographic development process.

“Leveraging the reach of Sony DADC Creative Services' global footprint, this international initiative was achieved by providing authoring, design and metadata content creation at the Paris facility, with movieIQ programming and development performed at the Salzburg and Los Angeles facilities,” says Stewart Dickison, Head of Authoring & Post-productions.

MovieIQ’s e-commerce opportunities are rich, especially with the company’s movieIQ+sync. A case in point is last year’s Jackson – This Is It title. Fans can build a list of their favourite songs from the movie, which will then be emailed to them and linked to the iTunes Stores where they can purchase the tracks. With the title Julie & Julia, viewers can request the specific recipe of a meal served in the movie. The address for downloading this recipe is emailed to the viewer’s phone. Interactivity can be switched on to the viewer’s smartphone so not to be distracted from watching the film on the disc.

There are over 70 titles with movieIQ worldwide. Recent releases include Salt, The Other Guys, Karate Kid and Resident Evil: Afterlife.
