DVD copy protection supplier X-PROTECT is latest market casualty

German copy protection solutions developer X-PROTECT GmbH has gone into receivership earlier this month. CEO Oliver Koch says the company suffered massive losses in the current financial year which forced it to initiate involvency procedures at the beginning of August. A Munich lawyer Dr Christine Berg-Green was appointed as administrator.

Headquartered in Munich with branches in Newport Beach, California, and the Technology Competence Center in Bochum, Germany, X-PROTECT was founded 2003 with the ambition of becoming the leader in the German CD/DVD anti-piracy protection market.

The company’s main product, DVD-Movie-Protect, had been used in titles from Concorde Home Entertainment, Video, Constantin Film and Universal Pictures, amongst others.
