JPK to increase production of DVD players for Sony

Malaysian original electronics equipment manufacturer JPK Holdings Bhd will increase the production of DVD players for Sony Corporation Japan to 2.4 million units this year from just below two million in 2005, said JPK executive chairwomen Dr Liew Lai Ping.

"We have sold 10 million DVD players to Sony since 2001 to 2005 and we are targeting a milestone of 20 million units sold to Sony within the next three years," she told reporters after the 10th million DVD player delivery to Sony on March 2.

JPK manufactures DVD players, minidisks, car compact disc players and computer parts.

Since last year, JPK has been supplying 90% of Sony’s single disc DVD players, which are exported worldwide, namely to Japan, Europe and the US, said Liew. "Initially we only supplied 20% (of DVD machines) to Sony; now we supply 90% of Sony's needs. It (Sony) contributed 20% to the total turnover last year," she said.
