Andy Evans, The Pavement
Presentation delivered at the 2nd Blu-ray Disc Academy 3D conference, Hamburg, 3-4 May 2011.
Andy Evans is Co-founder and Managing Director of The Pavement. Fresh from a Masters degree in 1994, Andy began his career in multimedia solutions and Virtual Reality simulations at the BT Research Laboratories, prior to joining London-based post-production facility TVI two years later. There, he focused on MPEG applications, including VideoCD and CD-ROM projects in the corporate sector before relaunching the division as a DVD production studio called Stream.
Andy left Stream in 2000 to form The Pavement. The company quickly became London's premier media and motion graphic production company and one of Europe's most creative DVD facilities, mastering a wide variety of discs for the music, TV, feature film and corporate sectors. In 2005, the company was approached by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to become part of their beta development of UMD-Video tools and Andy pioneered this new technology at The Pavement, producing some 50 UMD titles.
In 2008, the company opened its Blu-ray division. One of the largest independent film production and post-production companies in the US and UK - Goldcrest Group - invested in The Pavement at the beginning of 2009, in a bid to develop the company's much sought-after service offering, including 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, online, mobile and production.
